English Phonetics Course 1051

Course Overview

The English Phonetics Course 1051 is designed for undergraduate students to learn about the knowledge of Phonetics, with a particular focus on English. The course is offered by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, and is taught by Professor Ou Shu-Zhen.

Course Objectives

The two branches of phonetics, Articulatory Phonetics and Acoustic Phonetics, will be introduced, and students will have the opportunity to analyze speech using free acoustic software.

Course Structure

The course consists of 11 lectures, which can be broken down into two main parts:

• The first part focuses on Articulatory Phonetics, covering the physiological foundations of producing sounds.
• The second part explores the acoustic properties of speech sounds, and provides students with the opportunity to analyze speech using software such as PRAAT or WAVESURFER.
